Sacred Alliance: An Inspirational Mystery
The fictional village of Sommerville, NY, snuggled comfortably between the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains and the sparkling waters of Great Sacandaga Lake, is the setting for this story of good and evil which unfolds during one freezing January week.
After Sommerville’s longtime medical practitioner retires, newly licensed Dr. Paul Abrams and his wife move from New York City to fill the void. Paul’s life is unexpectedly interrupted one January evening by an urgent request for medical assistance from Jedidiah Sutton, an elder in a reclusive Christian sect called the True Covenant Shepherds. These Shepherds are known as shunning most aspects of the secular world, including standard medical practices.
Paul soon becomes caught up in a series of terrifying events that expose shocking secrets rapidly unraveling in the Shepherd Community. The depth of the faithful Shepherds’ covenant faith is tested by the increasingly bizarre actions of their aging leader, Reverend Samuel Henderson, and Eli Henderson, his newly arrived, heir-apparent grandson.
At first, Paul struggles alone with his suspicions of improprieties in the Shepherd Community while also attempting to heal problems in his personal life. It isn’t until he shares his concerns with Father Patrick O’Bannon, Pastor Jim Murray, and Police Chief Clarence Conover that a strong team is established to free the Shepherds from the evil in their community.
In addition to being allowed a peek into the private lives of the Shepherd families, readers become acquainted with many Sommerville residents who frequent Paul’s medical clinic, reminiscent of Jan Karon’s characters in her Mitford series.
